Types of Industrial Deafness

Nearly a quarter of a million workers in the UK suffer some form of hearing problems as a consequence of working in noisy work environments – the two most common hearing complaints are industrial deafness and tinnitus. Both of which have varying degrees of seriousness, ranging from a quiet tingling noise to a constant drone with severe tinnitus, or temporary loss of hearing to (in more serious cases) permanent hearing loss in severe cases of industrial deafness.

There are warning signs that can be observed if you believe that you are in a profession which is susceptible to cases of hearing impairment and in many cases more severe forms of industrial deafness tend to manifest themselves over several years. On the other hand a case of acoustic trauma can occur extremely quickly and can leave permanent damage such as a perforated eardrum.
